1. Customer flow

It is important for you to know the trend your customers follow when they enter your shop. Normally, the path they take is counter-clockwise. That is why, whenever possible, it is advisable to place the door on the right-hand side of the retail space to encourage the natural flow of customer traffic.

Be observant and find out where and how your customers walk in order to know where to place your most attractive products.

2. Promotional furniture

While you can’t constantly change the entire layout of your shop to keep up with the times, you can have furniture that is changed weekly to create dynamism.

The last thing you want is for customers to become too accustomed to the shop.

3. Cross-selling

A great strategy is to cross-sell items that are different but have something in common. Identify the products in your shop that would go well together and put them in one display. To do this, try to look at the merchandise from the customer’s perspective to see what they need and what products they would combine.

4. Visual lines

You should take into account the most important visual lines when choosing where to place each item. In this sense, products placed at eye level are those that will acquire the most prominence, followed by those placed at hand level.

5. Keep track

Last but not least, it is always essential to measure whether you are implementing the best possible strategies. Pay attention to your customers’ behaviour in the shop: where they go, where they stay the longest, what they do, etc. It is also a good idea to ask them questions about their behaviour.
